Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C - Nick Miller hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning in support of David St.

Lawrence's five and a third shutout innings and Edenton (14-4) defeated the Morehead City Marlins (8-10) 5-2 in a rain-shortened game at Historic Hicks Field on Tuesday night.

David St. Lawrence (Brown University), celebrating his 20th birthday, made his third start of the season against the Morehead City Marlins. Justin Taylor made his fourth start of the season for the Marlins.

It was a pitcher's duel through five innings as Edenton did not get a base runner until the bottom of the fifth when Trent Miller (Middle Tennessee State University) was hit by a pitch.

Through five innings, Morehead City had five hits but failed to score, stranding runners on base in every frame.

Nick Miller (University of Northern Colorado) hit a two-run double off Taylor in the bottom of the sixth that plated Chase Harris (University of New Mexico) and Nick Thompson (East Carolina University) to give Edenton a 2-0 lead.

St. Lawrence was pulled after five and a third innings, allowing seven hits and no runs and did not factor into the decision.

Edenton added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh off Taylor Thurber. Dominic Fratantuono (Towson University) hit an RBI single, scoring Adam Kirsch (Texas Tech) and three batters later Harris walked with the bases loaded to push in Trent Miller for a 4-0 Steamer lead.

Morehead City got on the board against Rohn Pierce (Canisius Colege) in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs and two runners on base, Sam Ott slapped a two-run double into the left-centerfield gap and cut the lead in half, 4-2 Edenton.

In the bottom of the eighth Nick Miller hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot that pushed the Steamer lead to 5-2. With Josh Hampton (Wilmington University) at the plate and rain starting to fall, Historic Hicks Field suffered a power outage. The rain continued to fall and after the outage the umpires put the game into a delay and eventually called it a 5-2 final.

Beau Beadreau (Flagler College) earned the win for his two-thirds of work in relief of St. Lawrence. Taylor took the loss for Morehead City. Edenton has won 10 in a row, tying the longest win streak from a summer ago. The Steamers travel to Petersburg tomorrow to play the Generals at Petersburg Sports Complex; first pitch at 7:05 pm.
