Morehead City Marlins News Release
Edenton, N.C. - The Edenton Steamers (14-4) have defeated the Morehead City Marlins (8-10) for the second time in just three days. This time the Steamers defeated the Marlins 5-2 at Historic Hicks Field in Edenton, N.C. to increase their winning streak to 10 games in a rain-shortened game.
Justin Taylor kept the Steamers hitters in check early as he took a no hitter into the sixth inning. Chase Harris broke up the no-no with a line drive single right back up the middle with two outs in the bottom half of the sixth. Nick Thompson then walked and Nick Miller crushed a two-RBI double to give the Steamers a 2-0 lead after six. The Steamers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single and a bases loaded walk to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Marlins bounced back in the top half of the eighth to cut the Steamers lead in half at 4-2. Brad Haynal roped a pinch-hit single, Dalton Britt reached on an error and Sam Ott crushed a two-RBI double that one hopped the wall out in left-centerfield. However, Miller responded with a long home run way over the centerfield wall to extend the Steamer lead to 5-2. The Marlins failed to come any closer in the ballgame as the Steamers held on for a 5-2 victory.
Despite a strong effort on the bump, Taylor suffered the loss for the Marlins. David St. Lawrence didn't pick up the win for Steamers with 5.1 scoreless innings on the bump. Beau Beaudreay was credited with the win in relief. The Marlins return home to Morehead City to face the Columbia Blowfish with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM.
