Spokane, Wash. - In conjunction with Miller Lite, the Spokane Chiefs will make a $2,000 donation to Second Harvest food bank based on anticipated proceeds from the 2020 Miller Lite St. Paddy's Day jersey auction. The donation will help provide approximately 10,000 meals for families in need in our community.

"Second Harvest continues to be a great community partner and is working hard to help Spokane get through these difficult times," said Jay Stewart, Chiefs Vice President of Sponsorships and Operations. "We're disappointed that fans weren't able to enjoy our St. Paddy's Day jerseys on the ice but are happy to know that with help from Miller Lite, they'll still be able to help provide assistance to people in need. We encourage any Chiefs fans who have the means to consider donating to Second Harvest to help those less fortunate receive healthy meals."

The Chiefs were prepared to wear St. Patrick's Day themed jerseys for their season finale on Saturday, March 14 versus the Tri-City Americans. The game was cancelled in response to the global COVID-19 virus pandemic. The special green sweaters were to be auctioned at the game with a portion of the proceeds going to Second Harvest, whose mission is to provide healthy food to every person, every day in the Inland Northwest.

Chiefs fans will have the opportunity to bid on the jerseys at a later date as details of a substitute auction are being finalized.

Second Harvest has seen more people than ever turning to food banks, many for the first time. Seniors in our community in particular are facing increased barriers to food access as a high-risk population for COVID-19 complications.

Because of the surge in demand for food assistance in the region, donated food is flowing out Second Harvest's doors more quickly than it is flowing in, and the need is expected to grow as more people feel the financial consequences.
