Scoreless until the until the top of the third, Edenton grabbed a 1-0 lead when Trent Miller (Middle Tennessee State University), with runners on second and third slapped a dribbler in the infield and reached on the single, allowing Chase Harris (New Mexico State University) to come home from third after reaching base on the hit batsman.
The Steamers added three runs in the top of seventh, finally chasing Connolly when they began with a single by Alex Delgado (Emmanuel College) and an RBI double by Harris two batters later to make it 2-0 Steamers. Nick Thompson (East Carolina University) followed with a runs scoring triple before scoring himself on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.
