Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Milwaukee Milkmen earned a series victory over the Kane County Cougars with a 14-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Before Milwaukee's (36-32) bats erupted, the Cougars (34-35) took an early lead against Milkmen starter AJ Schugel (2-4). On the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning, Ernie De La Trinidad crushed a home run over the right field fence to make it 1-0.
After the Cougars took the lead, Milwaukee responded in a big way in the top of the third against Vance Worley (5-7). The Milkmen plated six runs on six hits in the frame. Jeremiah Burks, Correlle Prime, and Wil Kengor each drove in a run for the first three runs of the inning. Following Kengor's RBI single, Keon Barnum belted a three-run homer to right-center field to make it 6-1. It was Barnum's 20th home run of the season.
Milwaukee added three more in the top of the fifth. Following a Barnum walk, Miguel Gomez hit a two-run shot that made it 8-1. A solo home run by Aaron Hill later in the inning pushed the Milkmen's lead to 9-1.
The Cougars cut into the lead thanks to an RBI double by BJ Lopez in the bottom of the fifth. After Milwaukee added a run in the top of the eighth, Galli Cribbs Jr. hit an RBI double to score De La Trinidad and make it 10-3. However, the Milkmen continued to pour it on with a Dylan Kelly grand slam in the top of the ninth that made it 14-3.
Kane County did add another run in the ninth as Nick Anderson came in to score on a fielder's choice, but Milwaukee had more than enough insurance to claim a 14-4 victory.
Following a three-game series in Kansas City, the Cougars return to Northwestern Medicine Field for a three game homestand from August 5-7. Promotions include a Northwestern Medicine Floppy Hat giveaway on August 5th and Tie Dye Night on August 6th. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
