Milwaukee Milkmen News Release
FRANKLIN, Wis. - The Milwaukee Milkmen have won two games of their four game series against the Kansas City Monarchs by defeating them 2-1 in game three Wednesday night.
Starting pitcher A.J. Schugel pitched the first five innings for the Milkmen and gave up four hits, no walks, and no runs.
"I was commanding pretty well tonight," Schugel said of his performance. "Giving up no walks was big, these guys get a lot of hits so I just minimized that as best I could."
The two runs of the night for Milwaukee came in the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth Will Kengor hit a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead, and in the sixth Keon Barnum hit a long single that scored Correlle Prime from second and extended the lead to two.
Frankie Bartow gave up the one run for Kansas City in the game, but he was able to close the seventh inning with no further damage.
Juan Echevarria and Rodrigo Benoit pitched the last two innings for the Milkmen and both gave up no hits and no walks as Milwaukee closed victorious.
"It was two big league pitchers out there tonight," Milkmen manager Anthony Barone said of the pitchers' duel. "Kansas City's guy is very good but Schugel matched him. It was great to see A.J. (Schugel) go five innings in his second start of the year.
The Milkmen will now play one more game against the Monarchs tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. They will then turn right around and begin another home series against the Sioux City Explorers that begins Friday and also starts at 6:35 p.m.
