Ontario Reign News Release
San Diego, CA - Forward Mike Amadio scored his first professional goal with the game-winning tally in overtime to give the Ontario Reign (6-2) a 4-3 victory over to the San Diego Gulls (4-4) in Game 4 of the Pacific Division Finals Friday evening at Valley View Casino Center. The Reign lead the best-of-seven series, 3-1.
The Gulls started the contest with several scoring chances on Reign netminder Peter Budaj (W, 25 saves on 28 shots), but the veteran keeper denied all 10 shots faced. Late in the frame, Gulls defenseman Brandon Montour came close to opening the scoring on the power play, but the tally was disallowed after review.
In the second period, the Gulls jumped on the scoreboard on the man advantage as defenseman Shea Theodore slipped in a shot from the left point at 7:21.
The Reign fought back early in the third period as forward Nic Dowd ripped a shot over the glove of Gulls goalie Matt Hackett (L, 33 saves on 37 shots) from the right-wing circle at 3:47. Defenseman Kevin Gravel added the lone assist. Forward Chris Mueller put the Gulls back in front at 11:02. Just over a minute later Reign forward Adrian Kempe darted down the right wing and beat Hackett to the blocker at 12:04 to knot up the game, 2-2. The following shift, the Kempe gave the Reign a brief 3-2 lead (13:56) before Mueller pulled the contest back to even 12 seconds later to force overtime.
In the extra session, forward Sean Backman sent a pass to the blue line for defenseman Kevin Gravel whose shot raced wide of the net. Straight off the bench, Amadio caught the puck of the backboards to send in the game-winning marker between the legs of Hackett at 6:29.
