Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Miguel Pinango tossed the fifth no-hitter in Binghamton Mets history in Game Two, helping the B-Mets sweep a doubleheader from the Portland Sea Dogs, 9-6 and 7-0. The B-Mets swept the four-game series and have won 16 of 21.

Pinango (5-6) got plenty of run support in the second game, as Binghamton erupted for a six-run third against Portland's Frank Brooks. Ambiorix Concepcion began the inning with a single before Corey Ragsdale doubled him to third. Kevin Rios brought them both home with a two-run double to left before Bobby Malek reached on an error and Brooks (1-2) walked Chase Lambin. That loaded the bases for Jay Caligiuri, who hit a grand slam to left for a 6-0 B-Mets lead. Michel Abreu doubled home Caligiuri in the top of the seventh for the game's final run.

Meanwhile, Pinango was perfect through six innings. Jacoby Ellsbury began the bottom of the seventh inning by hitting a shallow fly ball to center that Carlos Gomez grabbed with a headlong diving catch. Matt Van Der Bosch then grounded one to short. Rasgdale fielded the ball cleanly, but his throw to first pulled Caligiuri off the bag for an error. After Chad Spann struck out, Pinango got Luis Jimenez to ground out to second to complete the first no-hitter in the Eastern League this season and first by a B-Met since Bob Keppel no-hit Portland on August 2nd, 2003 at NYSEG Stadium.

Binghamton (50-49) had to come from behind to win Game One. After Abreu hit a two-run homer in the top of the first off Chris Smith, Portland scored four straight, with Brandon Moss driving in the go-ahead run with a base hit in the second.

However, the B-Mets got to Smith (9-5) in the fifth, when Wilson Batista's RBI single scored Ragsdale and pulled Binghamton within 4-3. In the sixth, after Gomez walked and Concepcion singled, Ragsdale launched a three-run homer to left-center, putting Binghamton up for good. Mike DiFelice followed with a longball of his own for a 7-4 B-Mets advantage.

After Jimenez's two-run homer in the sixth brought Portland (55-45) within 7-6, Abreu hit his second longball of the game, another two-run shot, in the top of the seventh.

Robert Paulk (4-2) tossed 3 1/3 innings of relief for the win. Henry Owens got the final four outs for his 13th save in as many chances.

Monday, the B-Mets start a seven-game homestand, opening a three-game set against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Michael Devaney (1-0, 2.60) will start for Binghamton against Jesse Litsch (1-2, 5.18) of New Hampshire. The first pitch is slated for 7:00 at NYSEG Stadium with radio broadcast starting at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
