Midland Holds off Roughriders in Series Opener

The Midland RockHounds posted four multi-run innings en route to a 13-8 victory over the RoughRiders Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Citibank Ballpark.

The RoughRiders (60-48, 20-18) took an early 3-0 lead, but Midland (46-62, 19-19) responded with 12 runs in the next four innings. Six different RockHounds drove in a run, including four by Wes Timmons.

Frisco starter Carlos Pimentel (4-8) allowed ten of those runs in three and two-thirds innings. The right-hander walked six and allowed ten hits.

The 'Riders' offense cut into Midland's lead with two in the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Mike Bianucci and Jose Ruiz. Two innings later, Frisco plated three, capped off by a two-run homer from Jonathan Greene, who went 3-for-4 in the loss. Greene now has 16 home runs, which is good for third on the club.

Bianucci and Ruiz each drove in a pair and had two hits. Davis Stoneburneralso chipped in with three hits, a run and an RBI.

Out of the bullpen, Corey Young surrendered two runs on one hit in two and a third innings of work. Behind Young, Jake Brigham allowed one run in two innings of work. That tally snapped a seven-outing scoreless streak that lasted 15 innings.

Midland starter Shawn Haviland (5-9) lasted seven innings and gave up five runs on 11 hits for the victory.

The RoughRiders and RockHounds continue this three-game series Wednesday night at 6:30. Richard Bleier (3-6, 6.48) will start for the 'Riders and oppose Midland righty Ethan Hollingsworth (4-3, 3.78). Pre-game coverage along the RoughRiders Baseball Network begins at 6:00.
