Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers put together consecutive three-run innings on Wednesday evening to drop the Road Warriors, 6-2, completing a sweep of a three-game series.

With the win, Lancaster's wild card lead over New Britain remained at 7 1/2 games while the lead over York grew to nine.

Jose Julio-Ruiz jumped the travel squad out to a 2-0 lead with a two-out, two-run blast to right center field in the top of the first inning. Brooks Hall (9-3) allowed a loud double to Gustavo Pierre to lead off the second, but the right-hander settled down and did not allow another runner to reach scoring position. Hall lasted seven innings, giving up six hits while walking one and matching his season high with nine strikeouts.

The Barnstormers were not able to reach Raul Rivera-Alicea (4-12) until the bottom of the fourth. The right-hander walked Blake Gailen to get the rally started. Jimmy Paredes lined a single into right center, and Gailen was able to take third when center fielder Anthony Ray lost his grip on the ball trying to throw it back to the infield. Ryan Casteel tied the game with a two-run triple to right center and immediately scored when K.C. Hobson drilled a single into right.

Lancaster ended up leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, bringing Gailen around again to start the fifth. The inning started in nearly identical fashion with Gailen picking up a walk and Paredes punching a single into center. Casteel ripped a base hit into left to load the bags. Hobson got one home with a slow grounder to the right side, and Trayvon Robinson polished off the scoring with a two-run single through the drawn-in infield.

The game played out routinely after the final two runs with the last 23 outs coming on just 25 batters.

Lancaster is off on Thursday before opening a three-game series against the Skeeters on Friday evening. Right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo (7-6) will be making the start for the Barnstormers. Sugar Land has yet to announce its probable starter for Friday night.

NOTES: Darian Sandford was 2-for-3 and is now 28-for-68 (.412) over his last 18 games...Paredes is 16-for-27 (.593) in his last seven, hitting safely in all of them...Hobson has five RBI in the last four games...Hall's outing also tied his longest of the season...It was his seventh quality start...Overall, Lancaster has won 12 of 16.
