Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- Things seemed to be under control for the Palm Beach Cardinals after grabbing a 3-0 lead after three innings. Problem is, things turned out of control in the fourth and fifth innings, as the Tampa Yankees plated four runners in each, earning an 8-6 victory at Roger Dean Stadium.
Palm Beach scored three runs in the third inning, spurned by three RBI doubles hit by Sean Danielson, Juan Lucena and Joe Mather. The Cardinals would be shut down until scoring three more runs in the ninth.
Cory Meacham (0-1) was cruising through his first start at Palm Beach, until issuing a lead-off walk to star first baseman Cody Ehlers to start the Tampa rally in the fourth. Edwar Gonzalez followed with a double down the left-field line, putting runners at second and third. Meacham induced a ground ball back to the mound off the bat of Ben Himes, but an errant throw toward first base allowed Cody Ehlers to score. Last night's hero, Rudy Guillen, followed by singling up the middle knocking in two more.
Meacham would be pulled in the fifth inning, accountable for all eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits, while walking one and striking out three.
Tampa starter Chase Wright (6-2) garnered the victory, allowing three runs on four hits, over six innings. All four of the Cardinals hits against him came in the third inning.
The Cardinals tried to muster up a comeback, trailing 8-3, against Yankees closer Paul Thorp in the ninth. Thorp came into the contest with only 2 earned runs against him in 29 2/3 innings of work. After recording the third out, the Cardinals fell short but doubled his runs allowed total.
