Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - MidAmerican Energy Company and the Iowa Energy are teaming up for Green Week March 30 - April 4 to bring attention to the importance of energy conservation and environmental responsibility.
Iowa Energy players, coaches and staff will kick off Green Week today at Easter Lake Park to aid in the greening and cleanup of waterways, walking paths and community shelter areas. The Energy are also committed to various tree planting events around the Des Moines area, which will take place later this spring.
The highlight of Green Week will be the Iowa Energy's Go Green nights at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, sponsored by MidAmerican Energy. The Energy's games tomorrow and Saturday at 7 p.m. will showcase the importance of energy efficiency and feature special energy efficiency tip trading cards giveaways.
Iowa Energy players will wear special green jerseys for both games. Beginning tomorrow, select players' jerseys will be available for auction. The auction will conclude after Saturday's game with all proceeds going to MidAmerican Energy's I CARE program. I CARE donates funds to local agencies to assist customers who are unemployed, living on fixed or low incomes, or experiencing a family crisis in paying their utility bills or making their homes more energy efficient. I CARE funding comes from customer donations, with a 25 percent match by MidAmerican Energy for all funds raised. All donations go directly to the agency that oversees the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program in the area where the contribution originated.
During the Iowa Energy Go Green games, attendees will hear MidAmerican Energy's Top 10 energy efficiency tips read by Iowa Energy players on the arena video board, along with tips and messages about no- to low-cost energy saving ideas to make homes and small businesses more energy efficient. MidAmerican Energy also will retire enough renewable energy credits to offset the electricity usage at Wells Fargo Arena for both games.
