
Miclat, Welty Named Carolina League All-Stars

Frederick, MD - Frederick Keys shortstop Greg Miclat and right fielder Ronnie Welty have been named to the Carolina League All-Star Team. The two will represent the league against the California League in the 2010 All-Star Game to take place at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach, SC on Tuesday, June 22nd.
Miclat, 22, has fought through two stints on the disabled list to have his most successful professional season. Drafted by the Orioles out of the University of Virginia in the fifth round in 2008, Miclat has gone on the disabled list for a broken nose (April 16) and a sprained foot (May 20). He has rebounded to lead all league shortstops in batting (.313). Last night he struck his first professional home run, a two-run shot against Potomac.
Welty, 22, was the Orioles Player of the Month for April hitting six home runs while driving home 21 runs. The 21 RBI's was the most by a player in the Orioles organization. Baltimore's 20th round pick in the 2008 draft out of Chandler-Gilbert CC, Welty leads the Keys with nine home runs which is tied for fifth in the Carolina League.
The Carolina/California League All-Star Game has been played since 1996. The 2005 Game was played at Harry Grove Stadium featuring players like Ubaldo Jimenez (Rockies), Howie Kendrick (Angels) and Nick Markakis (Orioles). Former Keys that have been selected to play in the All-Star Game include Jayson Werth (1999), Erik Bedard (2001), Nick Markakis (2005), Jake Arrieta (2008), Matt Wieters (2008) and Brian Matusz (2009).
