Brampton Steelheads News Release

Niagara, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads visited their division rivals Thursday night to kick off a home and home series with the Niagara IceDogs. Mississauga and Niagara both won their last games, the Steelheads with a 3-2 shootout win over the Oshawa Generals, and the IceDogs with a 5-2 victory over the Barrie Colts.

A number of power play opportunities would work to the Steelheads advantage, as Mississauga scored a pair of goals with the extra man, the first on a 5-on-3 to take a 2-0 lead in the first. Michael McLeod opened the scoring at 10:50 from Nathan Bastian and Alex Nylander on the power play. Nylander would add his own a few minutes later at 14:19 to increase the Steelheads lead 2-0. Stefan LeBlanc and Michael McLeod drew the assists on Nylander's 18th of the season. The IceDogs would respond with a power play goal of their own at 16:46 as Anthony DiFruscia netted his 12th of the season from Jordan Maletta and Blake Siebenaler. The Steelheads held a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

The IceDogs would get off to a great start in the second as Nick Pastorious evened the score at 2-2 just 1:08 into the period. Unfortunately for the IceDogs it would be all Steelheads as Mississauga answered with three consecutive goals including two more power play markers, one on a 5-on-3, to take a 5-2 lead after two. Ryan McLeod regained the Steelheads lead at 8:02 of the middle frame from Nicolas Hague and Luke Kutkevicius. Nylander and Michael McLeod would both net their second of the night on back-to-back power plays to give Mississauga a 5-2 lead heading into the final frame.

Niagara would get one back in the third period from Josh Ho-Sang to make it a 5-3 game, but that would be as close as the IceDogs would get as the Steelheads cruised to a 5-3 win.

The Steelheads host the IceDogs for game two of the home and home tomorrow evening at the Hershey Centre.
