Allowing only two hits the Calgary Vipers (25-18) defeated the Strong Warriors of Maui (16-22) 3-0 at Iron Maehara Stadium in Maui, Hawaii in the first game of a double-header featuring two seven inning contests. Getting the start Mark Michael (3-2) tossed six innings while not allowing a run on only two hits and one walk while striking out six. Claudio Galva (12) recorded the save with a perfect final inning including a strikeout. With the win the Vipers move to a game and a half back in third place in the North Division.
At the plate the Vipers scored in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead as Jonny Kaplan walked, Wilver Perez singled, and Kaplan scored when a double-play was hit into.
Two insurance runs were added in the seventh frame when Louie Templeton walked, Bryan Burke doubled, and Kevin Price singled for a 3-0 advantage.
Nick Renault (0-1) took the loss after allowing one run in six innings.
Game 2 of this twin bill goes at 8:30.
This series in Maui to take on the Strong Warriors continues on Friday July 8th at 10:35 PM.
The Vipers will return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium in Tuesday July 12th at 6:30 to take on the Edmonton Capitals.
The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
