Miami FC Strengthens Defense with Addition of Aedan Stanley

MIAMI - The Miami FC announced on Tuesday its the first signing of the year with left back Aedan Stanley, joining as a free agent, pending league and federation approval.

"I'm delighted with the signing of Aedan," commented Head Coach Anthony Pulis. "He is an exciting young left back who I know well and I believe has a bright future ahead of him. He has a lovely left foot, a great tactical understanding of the game and more importantly a very humble, hard working young man who is highly motivated to do well. I look forward to welcoming another talented young prospect into our Miami FC family."

Born in Columbia, Illinois, Stanley was drafted with the 21st overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by Major League Soccer side Austin FC from Duke University. The 22-year-old played a total of nine MLS games, starting twice and coming on as a substitute on seven occasions.

Stanley's professional career began before college, after signing a USL Championship amateur contract with Saint Louis FC. This allowed him to play professionally without losing his NCAA eligibility. After making several appearances for USL League Two's Saint Louis FC U23, Aedan made his pro debut with Saint Louis FC in the last game of the 2016 USL Championship season. The defender would go on to make 19 more appearances for Saint Louis FC between 2017 and 2018 before going to Duke University in August 2018.

"I'm excited to be a part of a club that as a clear sight in mind and that is to bring a championship to Miami," said Stanley. "I'm ready to give my all to the 305 and to the fans that support us. Together we can achieve our goals in 2022. Vamos Miami!"

He registered three assists across 37 games as a Blue Devil and was a two-time All-ACC Academic Team recipient in his two seasons there.

Stanley departed college after his sophomore year and signed a pro deal with Portland Timbers II in 2020 where he dished out three assists in 16 league games playing as a left-back. Ahead of the 2021 season, Stanley was signed by Sporting Kansas City II before mutually parting ways days laters allowing him to enter the MLS SuperDraft.

Stanley represented the United States U-18 team nine times in 2016 and 2017. He featured in four wins, two draws and three losses, and captained the team in a 2-1 win against Belarus.
