Frederick Keys News Release

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Rich Hill made a rehab start for the Frederick Keys tonight, but he was overshadowed by his opponent. Potomac right-hander Brad Meyers tossed 7.2 innings of shut out baseball to help lead Potomac to a 4-0 victory.

Hill, who was making his return from an elbow strain suffered while in spring training, pitched well for the Keys. He did, however, surrender the first run of the game. In the top of the third, with one out, Hill hit Boomer Whiting with a pitch. Whiting then stole second and third base, and scored on a ground out to shortstop. The P-Nats led 1-0.

Hill left after the third inning. He allowed just the one run on one hit, while striking out three.

John Mariotti came in for Frederick to pitch the fourth. With two away, he surrendered a solo homer to power-hitting rightfielder Micahel Burgess, extending the Potomac lead to two.

That was the only run Mariotti would allow. He ended up going five innings, allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out five. He left with a no decision.

Potomac tacked on a couple late runs in the ninth off of Keys reliever Brett Bordes to make it a 4-0 final.

Meyers got the win, improving his record to 2-0. Hill took the loss. Walkersville, MD native Dan Leatherman recorded the final four outs to pick up his first save of the season.

The Keys will try to bounce back tomorrow against the Potomac Nationals. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. 2009 Orioles' first-round pick Brian Matusz will take the hill for Frederick. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
