Hill City Howlers News Release
Behind five solid innings from starter Paul Mildren (pictured) the Hillcats earned a 4-1 victory at Kinston on Friday night. Lynchburg has now won three straight and taken the first two games of this four-game series and seven-game road trip. Game three of the set takes place on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Grainger Stadium. Tune-in for all the live action on FM 105.5 KD Country.
Kinston started the scoring again Friday night with a run in the bottom of the first on the RBI single by Lonnie Chisenhall to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.
Lynchburg would take the lead in the third with a three-run frame. The Hillcats scored three unearned runs on just one hit thanks to three walks, on hit batter and an error by the Indians.
That lead maintain through five innings thanks to the best start of the season by Hillcats left-handed hurler Paul Mildren who allowed just one run in five innings of action.
Lynchburg added an insurance run in the top of ninth inning to put their lead up to three. Kris Watts, who entered the day leading all of minor league baseball in batting average, smacked a two-out single to score Jordy Mercer and make it a 4-1 lead.
That would prove to be the final as R.J. Rodriguez would come on and pitch a perfect ninth inning to earn his sixth save in as many chances this season for Lynchburg (11-5).
The win went to Mildren (1-2) for the Cats who have now won three straight and eight of their victories have been of the comeback variety. The loss went to the starter Ryan Miller (0-1) for Kinston (7-9).
