LYNCHBURG HILLCATS (10-5) @ KINSTON INDIANS (7-8)

April 24th, 2009 -- 7:00 PM

@ Grainger Stadium

LHP Paul Mildren (0-2, 8.10) vs. LHP Ryan Miller (0-0, 2.25)

THE HILLCATS: The Hillcats kicked off a seven-game road trip with an 11-7 victory over the Indians in Kinston...The win snapped a five-game losing streak at Kinston for the Cats...Tonight is the second game of a four-game series at Grainger Stadium...

VS. KINSTON: Last season the Indians won the season series against the Hillcats 12-7 and were 6-3 against Lynchburg at Grainger Stadium...After taking three out of four at Kinston in the first series of the season against the K-Tribe, the Cats lost their last five games at the home of the Tribe...The last scheduled game between the two last year was canceled due to soggy field conditions and never made-up...

CALL IT A CATS COMEBACK: Last night the Hillcats were down 3-0 after an inning and down 5-2 after two innings before rallying for the win...The comeback matched the biggest rally of the season for the Cats who have won seven of their ten wins in come from behind fashion...It was also the second straight game Lynchburg came from three runs down to win...

LUCKY SEVEN: Lynchburg turned a three-run deficit into a four-run lead with a seven-run top of the fourth inning...It was the biggest inning of the season for the Hillcats and it matched their biggest inning from all of last season...The seven-run frame still came six runs shy of tying the biggest inning in Hillcats history back in 2002 against the Salem Avalanche...

GETTING AWAY WITH IT: In game one of the series last night the Cats stole their 17th and 18th bases of the season in 21 attempts this season...They are one steal shy of tying for the most in the Carolina League and they have the best success rate in the CL (86%)...

LOVIN' THE LONG BALL: The Hillcats hit two home runs in the first game of this series and it marked the first time this year they have hit more than one home run in a game...They had gone three games without a homer and they entered yesterday in last place in the league in round trippers...

CLUBBING CATCHER: C Kris Watts is off to an incredible start this season...In 12 games he is hitting .462 (18-for-39) with five doubles, a triple, two home runs, eight RBI, 12 runs scored and six walks...He is first in the league in batting, on-base percentage (.553) and slugging percentage (.795)...Amongst all of minor league baseball he is tied for first in average and on-base percentage, and fifth in slugging percentage...

SOCKING SOUTHPAWS: One of the most interesting aspects of C Kris Watts' phenomenal start to the season is his astounding success against lefties...Watts is batting .643 (9-for-14) against southpaws thus far...In three years as a professional Watss was batting .200 (29-for-145) against left-handers coming into this season...He had 14 hits against lefties all of last season with no home runs...Last night he went 2-for-3 against left-handers with a two-run home run...

MAKING THE MOST OF IT: OF Alex Presley is taking advantage of his recent playing time...He is now riding a team-high eight-game hitting streak and over that stretch is batting .371 (13-for-35) with two doubles, two triples, a home run, ten runs scored and five RBI...Last night he hit his first home run of the season...

RELIEVER REDEMPTION: RHP Christian Castorri through his first five games was 0-1 with a blown save and a 12.15 ERA...In his last two stints he has tossed five and 1/3 scoreless innings...Last night he pitched four innings without allowing a run, struckout three and earned his first victory of the season...In 2008 Castorri was 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA for Lynchburg in 10 outings in relief...

THREE-BAGGIN': Last night UTIL Miles Durham hit his third triple of the season to drive-in three runs in the seven-run fourth inning...It was the third triple of the season for Durham who only had five triples in his three-year career and had only one all of last season...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Ryan Miller was selected in the 36th round of the 2006 draft by the Indians out of Blinn College...Last year he spent the season with Low-A Lake County and went 8-7 with a 3.72 ERA in 26 games (24 starts) for the Captains...He was named a 2008 South Atlantic League All-Star...He began the year back with Lake County before getting promoted to Kinston after just one start...In that one outing he allowed three runs in four an 1/3 innings and took the loss...In his one start with the K-Tribe he pitched fur innings and allowed one earned run in a no-decision...
