
Mets Win Suspended Game, Fall to Cardinals in Game 2

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - On his 23rd birthday, David Thompson lifted the Mets to a 3-0 win with a walk-off home run over the Palm Beach Cardinals to complete Saturday's suspended game. Later on Sunday, the Cardinals rebounded for an 8-3 victory.
Saturday's game was suspended with a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the eighth. Went it was picked up on Sunday at noon, the Mets went in order in the bottom half of the eighth. Corey Taylor pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two on and two outs, Thompson jacked a ball from Will Anderson over the left field wall to end the game. It was his fourth home run for St. Lucie.
The Mets were poised to take over first place in the FSL South in the second game. With Jupiter losing to Fort Myers, the Mets led 3-2 in the top of the seventh. It all unraveled from there. Casey Delgado got ahead of No. 9 hitter Jose Fernandez 1-2, but couldn't put the .175 hitter away. He walked him.
Later in the frame, with two outs and two in scoring position, Delgado fell behind Cole Lankford 3-1 and surrendered a go-ahead two-run single into center field.
Delgado was lifted for Tyler Bashlor, who allowed an inherited runner to score and also two more runs. In the end, the Cardinals scored five runs with two outs to build a 7-3 lead. They cruised to the win from there.
The Mets went down 2-0 early but Luis Guillorme knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single in third to tie the game 2-2.
Jhoan Urena led off the sixth with a solo home run, his team-high 9th of the season, to put the Mets up 3-2.
The Mets enter the final week of the regular season just half a game back of Jupiter for first place in the FSL South Division. The two teams will face each other four times to end the year starting Thursday.
Next Up: The Mets (69-60, 34-28) hit the road to Port Charlotte to take on the Stone Crabs on Monday. The teams must complete a suspended game from June 30th. It is tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Another nine-inning game will follow. First pitch in the resumed game is 4 p.m. =
