St. Lucie Mets News Release

The Mets enter the final day of the season with their playoff hits still alive...barely. They have been eliminated from winning the Florida State League South Division in the second half, but there is still a way where they can get into the postseason as a wildcard team. Here is that scenario:

Mets beat Palm Beach Sunday

AND

Charlotte sweeps its doubleheader at Bradenton Sunday

AND

Fort Myers beats Jupiter on Sunday

This is the only way the Mets can make the playoffs.

The reasoning:

Fort Myers won FSL South Division first half. If Fort Myers repeats as the champion in the second half, the next best team in the FSL South over the course of the entire season goes to the playoffs as a wildcard team.

Fort Myers still has a chance to repeat. Fort Myers is 1.5 games back of first-place Bradenton. Fort Myers has one game left while Bradenton has two. If Fort Myers wins its last game vs. Jupiter and Bradenton loses its last two games to Charlotte, the Miracle and Marauders will end up tied for first. Fort Myers will win the South Division based on its head-to-head victory over Bradenton in the second half (5-4).

Then it comes down to which team wins the wildcard spot by securing the second best overall record.

Currently, the Mets are one game behind Bradenton for second place overall and 0.5 games behind Palm Beach. A Mets win over Palm Beach would allow them to jump Palm Beach. If Charlotte sweeps Bradenton in two games and the Mets win, the Mets would jump Bradenton for 0.5 games for second place overall.

All Bradenton has to do is win one game on Sunday to clinch the second half South title.

Here are the final games:

Mets vs Palm Beach- 1

-Sunday, 10:30 a.m., Tradition Field

Bradenton vs Charlotte- 2

-Sunday, 10:30 a.m., McKechnie Field (two 7-inning games)

Fort Myers vs Jupiter- 1

Sunday, 10:35 a.m., Roger Dean Stadium (9-inning game)
