Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets bombarded the Fort Myers Miracle with 15 runs on 16 hits en route to a 15-5 win to take the series at Hammond Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Mets pounced on Miracle starter Randy Rosario in the first inning. After recording the first two outs, Rosario (2-3) walked Amed Rosario. Then, Kevin Taylor hit a side spinning baseball that bounced off of Chris Paul at third base for an error. Wuilmer Becerra followed with an RBI single into left field to plate Rosario. Michael Katz stepped up and launched a 1-2 pitch 338-feet over the wall in right field for a three-run homer, 4-0. All four runs in the first inning were unearned.
St. Lucie continued the onslaught in the third with a six-run frame. Rosario and Taylor picked up back-to-back singles. Becerra earned his second RBI of the season with a double down the third base line. Rosario struck out Katz, but John Mora's bat exploded on a slow hopper to first base. Trey Vavra tried to throw out Kevin Taylor, but the Mets' designated hitter slid in behind Kevin Garcia's tag. With runners on the corners, Tomas Nido knocked in a run with a base hit to left. Jhoan Urena loaded up the bases with a single to left.
Rosario was taken out of the game in favor of Brandon Peterson. Entering the game with the bases loaded and one out, Peterson struck out Champ Stuart, but walked Luis Guillorme to force in a run. The Mets' Rosario then singled in two more St. Lucie runs to extend the advantage to 10-0.
Fort Myers got on the board with a run in the third. Tanner Witt picked up the first of his three hits on the night with a bouncing single up the middle. Garcia followed with a hit to left. After Chad Christensen popped out to third, Sean Miller advanced to Witt to third base with a fly out to right. Edgar Corcino then earned his first of four RBI with a two-out single to right field, 10-1.
The Mets offense capped off a season-high of runs allowed by the Miracle with a five-run fifth including a two RBI double from Guillorme, 15-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Corcino knocked in two more runs with a triple to center field off Mets starter Scarlyn Reyes. The last two Miracle runs came in the seventh on an RBI hit from Garcia and Corcino drove in a run with a fielder's choice, 15-5. Reyes (1-4) earned the win for the Mets with seven innings of work, 10 hits, five runs and two strikeouts.
Witt was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Garcia was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Corcino finished the night 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Corcino registered a four RBI game for the third time in six nights.
The Miracle (17-13) remain in first place by a half game and are off on Sunday for Mother's Day. Fort Myers returns to action on Monday with a road game at McKechnie Field against the Bradenton Marauders. The game on Monday will not be broadcast.
