
Mets Fall to Hammerheads 4-1 in Series Opener

JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the St. Lucie Mets 4-1 in the series opener at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Tuesday.
Jupiter starter Luis Palacios limited the Mets to one run on four hits over 6.0 innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
The Hammerheads broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning when Marlins top prospect Khalil Watson hit a RBI single with the bases loaded against Mets starter Dominic Hamel. Brady Allen worked a bases loaded walk from Hamel later in the inning to force in another run that made it 3-1.
Jan Mercado drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth inning for the final run of the game.
The Mets got their only run on a homer from Carlos Dominguez in the third inning. It was Dominguez's team high third homer of the season.
Hamel pitched 4.2 innings and was charged with three runs (two earned) on six hits. He walked three and struck out six.
New York reliever Jake Reed (left oblique) made another rehab appearance. He pitched a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts and a pickoff.
Dominguez went 2 for 3. Mets catcher Drake Osborn also went 2 for 3 with a double.
Allen was 3 for 3 and reached base all four times for the Hammerheads.
The Mets (7-3) and Hammerheads (5-5) play the second game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
