MetroStars Drop 5-4 Decision to Blast

Two fourth quarter goals by Jonatas Melo gave the defending MASL champion Baltimore Blast a come from behind 5-4 victory over the Mississauga MetroStars in a thrilling Eastern Division clash Sunday afternoon at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga, ON.

? ?The new-look MetroStars, with new head coach Rick Titus behind the bench, started strongly scoring three straight goals in the first quarter. Josh Paredes struck for the opening tally just 36 seconds into the game as he cut to the middle and hammered a shot past Blast keeper William Vanzela from outside the yellow line.

? ?Damion Graham doubled the Mississauga lead directing a pass from Mo Babouli into the net for his 13th goal of the season. Then, with less than four minutes to play in the quarter, new signing Raheem Rose scored his first MASL goal in his debut game to give the MetroStars a 3-0 lead after one quarter.

? ?The Blast cut the deficit with a pair of goals within the first five minutes of the second quarter. First it was Daniel Oliveira who beat Mississauga keeper Adrian Becic at 1:21 and then, at 4:33, Jamie Thomas curled a shot around the boards and past Becic for his 7th of the season.

? ?However, Matthew Rios would give the MetroStars a 4-2 lead hitting a low shot to the far corner of the net for his 9th of the season. But with just 60 seconds to play in the half, Ibrahima Keita cut the Blast deficit to 4-3 with a scorching right foot shot that beat Becic.

? ?There was no scoring in the third quarter as the MetroStars held firm but Melo became the Blast hero in the fourth quarter with his 15th and 16th goals of the season, netting the game-winner following a nice give and go with Vini Dantas.

? ?With the loss, the MetroStars' record in the MASL's Eastern Division falls to 3-14 while the Blast improves to 11-6.

? ?The MetroStars remain at the Paramount Fine Foods Arena where they will face the Harrisburg Heat next Saturday March 9. Kickoff is 3:05pm (ET).
