Baltimore, MD - The Blast recorded their 11th win of the season with a 5-4 victory over the Mississauga Metrostars.
The Metrostars started the game on fire with a goal from Joshua Paredes only thirty-seven seconds into the game. Damion Graham would extend the Metrostars lead midway through the first quarter with an assist from Molham Babouli. Raheem Rose would grab a short-handed goal with three minutes remaining in the quarter to give the Metrostars a 3-0 lead.
The Blast would get on the board early in the second quarter as Mike Deasel found Daniel Oliveira, who fired a shot into the top left corner for his fourth goal of the season. Minutes later, the Blast would cut the deficit through Jamie Thomas. In one of the more bizarre goals this season, Jamie Thomas hits a shot off the corner glass and flies in past the Metrostars goalkeeper. The Metrostars would go ahead 4-2 through Matthew Rios' ninth goal of the season. The Blast would shrink the deficit to 4-3 with just under a minute remaining in the second quarter thanks to Ibrahima Keita. Andrew Hoxie would hit the post with seconds remaining in the second quarter to close out the second quarter.
Both teams favored a possession-based style in the third quarter as neither team registered a goal. The Blast created several great chances, but the Metrostars goalkeeper Adrian Becic made multiple outstanding saves to keep the Blast attack at bay throughout the afternoon. The Blast outshot the Metrostars 10-4 in the third quarter but could not find the tying goal.
The Blast controlled possession through most of the fourth quarter and continued to prod at the Metrostars defense. The scoring drought ended when Vini Dantas played a ball off the wall to Jonatas Melo to tie the game up 4-4 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. Jonatas Melo would grab his second goal of the game from Vini Dantas' second assist to take a 5-4 lead with five minutes remaining. The Metrostars would insert their sixth attacker into the game with four minutes remaining. The Blast defense was able to hold off the Metrostars attack as they record a 5-4 win over the Metrostars.
Jonatas Melo and Vini Dantas led the scoring for the Blast with two points each. William Vanzela compiled seven saves and the Blast out shot the Metrostars 33-18. The Blast now sit one game back from Eastern Division leaders Utica City FC. The Blast return home to SECU Arena on Sunday March 10th at 3:00 p.m. as they take on the Kansas City Comets.
