
MetroStars Call Up John Wilson From Charleston Battery

SECAUCUS, NJ (July 12 , 2002) â The MetroStars today called up defender John Wilson from the Charleston Battery of the A-League for tomorrow's Eastern Conference showdown with the Chicago Fire. The 24-year-old Wilson (5-9, 170 pounds), who can also play in the midfield, is a native of Seneca, South Carolina who was a two-time All-ACC player at Clemson University from 1995-98. He was the ninth overall pick of the Kansas City Wizards in the first round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft, playing in three games (no points) for the team during their run to the 2000 MLS Cup championship. Wilson has been a defensive stalwart during his career with the Battery, starting 32 games (two assists) in 1999, 33 games (three assists) in 2001, and 16 games (1 goal) so far in the 2002 campaign.
