LA Galaxy News Release

PASADENA, CA (Friday, July 12, 2002) - Los Angeles Galaxy Major League Soccer (MLS) club VP/GM Doug Hamilton today announced the re-signing of midfielder Simon Elliott and defender Ezra Hendrickson. As members of the Galaxy, Elliott and Hendrickson have helped the club to some of its most storied victories including the 2000 F.C. Champions Cup and 2001 U.S. Open Cup titles.

"We are very pleased to have Simon and Ezra re-sign with MLS and remain with the Galaxy," said Hamilton. "Over the last few seasons, they have contributed significantly to the Galaxy's successes on and off the field, and we look forward to more outstanding performances from them in the future." The Galaxy's 2000 "Most Valuable Player" (MVP), Elliott has provided a tough defensive presence with a creative flair in the midfield for the Galaxy. The 6-0, 175-pound midfielder has appeared in 87 MLS matches - 81 starts - in four seasons, scoring eight goals and adding 26 assists for 42 points.

A native of New Zealand, Elliott has compiled five assists for five points in the 2002 season. In 2001, he became the first player in club history other than Mauricio Cienfuegos to lead the team in assists with 11. A member of the New Zealand National Team, Elliott has over 40 appearances under his belt with the "All Whites", and ranks 4th in total goal scoring among all active players on the national team.

One of MLS' best attacking outside defenders, Hendrickson has appeared in 112 MLS matches (90 starts), recording 15 goals and 20 assists for 50 points in six seasons. Already in the 2002 season, Hendrickson has registered five assists for five points.

In 2001, the St. Vincent & the Grenadines National Team defender was voted as the club's "MVP", while scoring five goals and adding three assists for 13 points. His biggest day came in the F.C. Champions Cup final in January 2001 when he tallied twice in the Galaxy's 3-2 victory over Olimpia of Honduras.

As per league and club policy, no terms of the deal were disclosed.

The L.A. Galaxy (7-7-2, 23pts) face another test on the road with a trip against another Western Conference rival - the Colorado Rapids - at INVESCO Field beginning at 6:00 p.m. (PT).
