Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants are proud to announce defenceman ANDREJ MESZAROS has signed his first professional contract today. The Ottawa Senators have signed Meszaros to a three-year entry level contract. Terms of the agreement were not released.

Meszaros was the Senators first pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft (23rd overall). In his first season with the Giants last year, Meszaros had 11 goals, 30 assists, and 94 penalty minutes in 59 games. In addition to being named to the WHL's Western Conference Second All-Star Team, Meszaros was also named the Giants Rookie of the Year and Defenceman of the Year. He also played for his native Slovakia at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

"Andrej was worth his weight in gold to our hockey club last season and he deserves everything he's received," says Giants General Manager Scott Bonner. "On behalf of everyone in our organization and the Giants fans, we congratulate Andrej on signing his first pro contract."

Meszaros is currently in Vancouver waiting to attend Giants training camp, beginning Friday August 26 at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
