Madison Capitols News Release
Madison Capitols forward Mick Messner was one of 42 players named to compete in the fifth annual CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game at Wells Fargo Center, home of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, on Thursday, September 22, USA Hockey announced on Wednesday.
Messner is also one of 34 players with USHL ties that were selected to play in the game. The annual All-American Prospects game showcases US-born players that will be eligible for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. A total of 25 players that participated in the contest last year were chosen in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, including a record-setting 10 first-round selections.
"This event provides some of the best U.S. players eligible for next year's NHL Draft the opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage," said Jim Johannson, USA Hockey's assistant executive director of hockey operations. "With input from NHL Central Scouting, this game will feature future stars of the NHL and we're thrilled to be working with the Philadelphia Flyers to host this game as part of their 50th anniversary."
Messner, 17, split the 2015-16 season between the Capitols and the AAA Madison Capitols 18U. The native of Madison, Wisconsin collected four assists in 27 games with the USHL team last season. Messner led the AAA Capitols with 40 goals and 79 points (40-3979) in 55 games as they went on to win the 2016 North American Prospects Hockey League Championship.
