Associate Head Coach Leaves for Head Coaching Position

SIOUX CITY, IA-The Sioux City Musketeers announced today that Associate Head Coach Mark Abalan is to take the head coaching job at Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep school in Faribault, Minnesota.

Mark Abalan will be returning to Shattuck-St. Mary's as the Head Coach of the U16 prep team where he was the Assistant Coach of the U16 team and helped them become the National runner-up in 2010-11. As the Head Coach of the U16 team, where Mark will lead young athletes' as they continue to develop upon their skills for their next step in hockey and in the classroom.

After spending five seasons with the Musketeers Mark assisted Head Coaches Brett Larson and Jay Varady in making the playoffs three out of five seasons. Mark's primary focus was strategizing the defensemen and the power plays. During the 2014-15 season Musketeers power play unit led the league in scoring percentages and his efforts kept the Musketeers as one of the more dominate power play teams in the USHL during his time.

Mark will move to Faribault, MN with his wife Missy and his two daughters. His role as the Head Coach will be effective immediately with the addition of teaching History. Shattuck-St. Mary's season will begin in mid-September.

General Manager Mark LeRose, will move to Sioux City and continue overseeing scouting, with the addition special teams and the defensemen. Current Assistant Coach Ethan Goldberg will expand his position overseeing billets, special teams and the defensemen.
