Mesquite Outlaws Lose Game vs. Florida Tropics, 3-5

MESQUITE, Texas (Feb. 1, 2020) -ÃÂ The Mesquite Outlaws lost their home game against the Florida Tropics, 3-5. The Tropics, leading the Eastern Division, came off a six-game winning streak. Attendance at the game was 2,486. Many fans stayed after the game to sing "Happy Birthday" to Outlaws head coach, Tatu.
The game began with a rough start for Outlaws fans when the Florida Tropics scored two goals in a row. Midfielder Gordy Gurson assisted by midfielder Matt Clare scored the first; the second was scored not even ten seconds later by midfielder Antonio Manfut. The Tropics scored a third goal by midfielder Lucio Gonzaga before the quarter ended.
The second period opened with a blue card served to Tropics midfielder Anthony Arico for tripping Outlaws midfielder Jorge Deleon. No goal was made during the Outlaws' power play. Next, Outlaws forward Jamie Lovegrove was served a blue card for a two-footed tackle. The entire Outlaws team remaining on the field assisted Outlaws goalkeeper Eduardo "Pollo" Cortez in defending the net. Although several attempts were made, the Tropics couldn't score during their power play. The stadium exploded in an burst of cheers for Outlaws midfielder Jorge Deleon, who scored the team's first goal of the game. The Tropics were once again issued a blue card, this time to midfielder Victor Parreiras for tripping Outlaws forward VcMor Eligwe. The Outlaws opted to send Lovegrove in for a one-on-one shootout against Tropics goalkeeper Hugo Silva, but unfortunately, Lovegrove missed. No goals were made during the Outlaws' second power play. The Tropics barely managed to score during the second quarter. Forward Zach Reget made an unassisted goal in the last five seconds of the first half.
Neither team scored a goal in the third quarter. The Outlaws nearly scored a goal at the top of the fourth quarter, but ended up in a mild scuffle which left Tropics defender, Robert Acosta hurt, but able to walk off of the field. Eligwe scored the Outlaws' second goal unassisted. For the last two minutes of the game, Cortes was pulled and replaced by defender Cody Ellis as a sixth attacker. Unluckily for the Outlaws, Tropics defender Drew Ruggles was able to score a goal. Ellis was then pulled and replaced by Cortes, who was able to prevent the Tropics from scoring any more. In the last few seconds of the game, Eligwe socred the Outlaws' third goal.
