Phoenix Mercury News Release
PHOENIX - The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today announced the signings of forward Reshanda Gray and guard Jennie Simms. Gray and Simms will be available tonight against Indiana and will wear No. 12 and No. 25, respectively. An updated Mercury roster is attached.
Gray, a 6-2 forward, is in her sixth WNBA season, having played 11 games with Seattle earlier this summer. There, she averaged 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11 games. Gray has seen stints with Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Seattle prior to arriving in Phoenix, holding career averages of 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 125 games (16 starts).
Prior to being selected with the 16th-overall pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft by Minnesota, Gray was a four-year standout at the University of California. There, she helped the Golden Bears reach the Final Four in 2013, and was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year by the league's coaches following her senior season.
In her second WNBA season, Simms, a 6-0 guard, re-joins the Mercury after playing in six games with Phoenix earlier this season. In the six games, Simms averaged 2.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.5 minutes of action. Simms began her WNBA career in 2014, having played 10 games with Washington and four with Indiana.
Led by the 2021 Olympic gold-medal winning duo of Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith, and coming off the club's fifth WNBA Finals appearance in franchise history, the three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury return to Phoenix this summer as the trio attempts to lead the Mercury to a WNBA-record tying fourth championship in 2022.
