Mercury release WNBA Finals schedule

PHOENIX - The 2007 Western Conference Champion Phoenix Mercury and the WNBA today announced the schedule for the 2007 WNBA Finals. The Mercury, the West's top seed entering the playoffs, will face the overall No. 1 seed and Eastern Conference Champion Detroit Shock, who won their conference championship tonight with a home victory over the Indiana Fever.

As the lower seed in the best-of-five, 2-2-1 format, the regular season Western Conference champion Mercury, who finished with just one less victory than Detroit, begin the WNBA Finals on the road visiting the Shock at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 4:30 p.m. (Phoenix time) on ESPN2. The Mercury will depart for Detroit early Tuesday morning and will not have media availability in Phoenix. Game 2 in Detroit will be played Sept. 8th at 12:30 p.m. (Phoenix time) and broadcast on ESPN. Phoenix returns home to host its second WNBA Finals game all-time and first since August 27, 1998 on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at US Airways Center. If necessary, Phoenix will host Game 4 on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and travel to Detroit for Game 5 on Sept. 16.

Phoenix earned the second WNBA Finals trip in franchise history with a two-game sweep of the San Antonio Silver Stars in the Western Conference Finals. Phoenix is the only undefeated team in the 2007 WNBA Playoffs (4-0) and the only team in the league with a playoff road victory (2-0 on the road).
