Phoenix Mercury News Release

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Mercury today announced the promotion of former guard Bridget Pettis, expanding her responsibilities to include fan and player development. Pettis will assist the Mercury front office with player programs, community relations and outreach as well as continue to serve as an assistant coach under Mercury Head Coach Paul Westhead.

"Bridget has been a part of this organization since day one," stated general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale. "She understands how the league works - inside and out. It makes perfect sense to continue expanding her role with this team. Bridget's knowledge and energy makes us better on the court and off."

An eight-year WNBA veteran, Pettis was an original member of the Phoenix Mercury and played for the team from 1997-2001 before returning for the 2006 season. The 35-year-old retired midseason to become a part of the Mercury coaching staff on June 29, 2006.

Pettis owns career averages of 6.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists in 228 games with both Phoenix and the Indiana Fever.

The Phoenix Mercury, under the direction of new general manager Ann Meyers Drysdale, own the No. 1 pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft. Winners of seven straight to finish 2006, the Mercury look to pick up where they left off led by All-Stars Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter. The 2007 WNBA season tips off May 19.
