Detroit Shock News Release

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The NBA Detroit Pistons and WNBA Detroit Shock organizations will visit the Pistons Holiday Village at Great Lakes Crossing Mall on November 17 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. as part of the Pistons Read to Achieve program. 2006 WNBA Champion Detroit Shock forward Swin Cash will be in attendance, along with members of Pistons dance team Automotion and Pistons mascot Hooper.

One-hundred first through third grade students from Auburn Elementary School in Auburn Hills and Alcott Elementary School in Pontiac will attend the event, which will begin at approximately 9:15 a.m. starting with a special Santa arrival parade followed by a visit through the Pistons Holiday Village and then on to experience the Snow Globes presented by Detroit Pistons. Students will then participate in a special Read to Achieve event in District 7 of Great Lakes Crossing - next to the Pistons Holiday Village, hosted by Cash, Automotion and other Pistons and Shock personalities. The event is themed around the new comedy Warner Bros. movie, "Happy Feet" which is set deep in Antarctica. Into the land of the Emperor penguins where each needs a Heartsong to attract a soul mate, a penguin is born who cannot sing. Our hero Mumble, son of Memphis and Norma Jean, is the worst singer in the world...however, as it happens, he is a brilliant tap dancer! "Happy Feet" comes to theaters starting Novemburrr 17.

The event will be highlighted by Automotion teaching dance steps to the kids. Cash will then read a portion of the book to the entire audience. Students will learn about the importance of reading, literacy and education. This message will be expressed and incorporated throughout the event, and each student will leave with a copy of the "Happy Feet" book.

Following the Read to Achieve "Dancing with Automotion" portion of the event, a brief lunch will be provided for the students at Rainforest Café. Following lunch, all students will watch a special matinee of the new Warner Bros. movie "Happy Feet" at the AMC Theatre.
