Arkansas Travelers News Release
TULSA, OKLAHOMA - The Los Angeles Angels announced Monday morning that right handed pitcher Tommy Mendoza has been assigned to the Arkansas Travelers. Right hander Jordan Walden was placed on the 7-day disabled list due to right elbow muscle inflammation and will miss his scheduled start tonight. Mendoza will be the starting pitcher Monday night when the Travs open a four-game series at Tulsa.
Mendoza, 21, was placed on the restricted list in July of 2008 and served a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. He made 20 appearances at Rancho Cucamonga in 2008 posting a 4-12 record and 4.73 ERA. The Hialeah, Florida native was selected by the Angels with their fifth round draft choice in 2005 out of Pace High School.
Walden last pitched appearance on Tuesday, April 21 throwing seven shutout innings at Frisco. He will undergo an MRI on Monday and is expected to rejoin the Travs on the road trip.
