Who has the hardest shot, the most accurate shot, who's the best at rapid fire, puck control and the fastest skater? The Moncton Wildcats will answer these questions when they hold their annual skills competition at the Eugene LeBlanc Arena in Memramcook on Monday, February 23 starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Wildcats will be divided into two teams, with the red team coached by associate coach Fabian Joseph. Honourary captain of the team will be J.P. Boudreau, a dedicated minor hockey supporter in the village. The white team will be under the direction of assistant coach Darryl Seward, his honourary captain, is Memramcook native and long time hockey supporter Jean-Louis Bourque.

Joining the Cats will be 12 minor hockey players from the Charlie Bourgeois Hockey School. There are seven events in the competition; fastest skater, accuracy, rapid fire, puck control relay, hardest shot, team relay and shoot-out. Last year, Scott Brannon won both the fastest skater and rapid fire events while Mark Barberio was best in shot accuracy.

To commemorate the Atlantic Division leading team coming to the Memramcook, the Mayor and Village Council have proclaimed February 23, 2009 Moncton Wildcats Day. The Council will be on hand to welcome the players and the new team bus when it arrives at 6:00 p.m.

It is a Wildcat tradition to take the competition to arenas in Southeastern New Brunswick where minor hockey associations are given a chance to see first hand the skill level of major junior hockey. Charlie Bourgeois's Hockey School is again sponsoring the event. "We were so impressed with the response we received last year when the competition was held in Lewisville, we immediately committed to this year," said Bourgeois.

Admission to the skills competition is free.
