Last Time Out: The Memphis Redbirds wrapped up their weeklong, six-game series against the Louisville Bats with an 8-7 loss on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park. Matthew Liberatore tossed another impressive start for Memphis, allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts. The game was tied at one entering the fifth inning, when the Redbirds surged ahead with three separate two-out RBI hits. Brendan Donovan had one of the RBI hits. He had an outstanding afternoon at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs driven in. Alec Burleson added insurance with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. Louisville went ahead for good with a five-run eighth inning. The Bats had five hits in the frame, including a go-ahead, two-run, two-out single from Narciso Crook.

Memphis Starter: Zack Thompson will make his 22nd appearance and 19th start of the season for the Redbirds this evening. Thompson struggled in his start against Louisville last Tuesday, allowing six runs and 10 hits in 4.1 innings. The 23-year-old pitched in relief against Jacksonville on July 3rd, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits in 3.0 innings. Thompson is hoping to bust out of a tough stretch of pitching tonight. The former Kentucky Wildcat has allowed 21 earned runs in his last five outings, surrendering 20 hits in 22.1 innings.

Jacksonville Starter: Nick Neidert makes his 12th appearance and 11th start with the Jumbo Shrimp this season. The righthander has been solid at the Triple-A level, posting an ERA of 3.32 in 59.2 IP (22 earned runs) with 42 strikeouts and 20 walks. He has also made eight appearances and seven starts with Miami this season, recording a 4.54 ERA in 35.2 IP (18 earned runs) with 23 walks and 21 strikeouts. Neidert is considered one of the top pitching prospect in Miami's system.

Burly Bombs: Alec Burleson had an excellent week at AutoZone Park last week against Louisville, batting .318 (7-22) with two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and six runs scored. Burleson launched a solo home run in the 7th inning of Sunday afternoon's game.

Good to be Gorman: Nolan Gorman has had an outstanding start to the month of September. In 17 games, Gorman is hitting .324 with four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs. Gorman homered twice last week against Louisville and now has 25 long balls on the season between Double-A and Triple-A.

Austin's Power: Austin Warner has been absolutely dominant out of the Redbirds bullpen over the last three months. Since the beginning of July, Warner has posted a 1.58 ERA in 22 appearances and 34.2 innings. The lefthander pitched three times last week against Louisville, allowing just one earned run in 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.

Hitting the Final Stretch: This week's five-game series at Jacksonville begins the "Final Stretch" for Triple-A baseball this season. The Redbirds wrap up the final 10 games of the season with a visit from the Charlotte Knights (Triple-A affiliate, Chicago White Sox) next week from Wednesday through Sunday. Durham will win the 2021 Regular Season Championship with a 77-43 record through the originally scheduled championship season (Triple-A West's regular season wraps up tonight). Among the 30 clubs, a single 2021 Triple-A Final Stretch Winner will also be crowned based on the highest overall winning percentage during this 10-game stretch. The winning club will be awarded a prize from Major League Baseball.
