Memphis 901 FC News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis 901 FC matched the club record for margin of victory with a 5-0 rout of Charleston Battery at AutoZone Park on Friday night.
Memphis put together one of the most dominant performances of the USL Championship season sparked by goals 18 and 19 from Phillip Goodrum in the early stages. 901 FC previously defeated LA Galaxy 5-0 on May 18.
Memphis invaded the Charleston final third early and converted on their first big chance of the match when Goodrum found himself in the right place at the right time to bury a rebound and put 901 FC up 1-0 in the 8th minute.
It wouldn't take long for Goodrum to score his fifth goal in the past two matches as Luiz Fernando found him on a clever run through the box before Goodrum beat the keeper in the 12th minute.
Laurent Kissiedou joined the fun in the 30th minute when he and Goodrum combined for a goal to put Memphis up 3-0 in the first half. The score was Kissiedou's sixth goal of the season. Memphis prevented Charleston from recording a single shot on goal in the first hlaf while all five 901 FC shots were on target.
901 FC notched the exclamation point goal in the 72nd minute as the captain Leston Paul whipped a cross into the box for Zach Carroll to go up 4-0.
Young striker Nighte Pickering got the nod as a substitute and answered with his second goal in his sixth professional appearance, a header to the back of the net off the foot of Patrick Seagrist.
Memphis moved to 18-7-4 with the win with 58 points this season, two points behind current first place and next week's opponent Louisville City FC.
The battle between the top two clubs in the Eastern Conference is set for September 23 at Lynn Family Stadium with kickoff set at 7 p.m.
