Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings will be looking to get back on the winning track Tuesday night at Westman Place when they play host to the reigning Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs.

Tuesday night's game is the second to last home game on Brandon's current 7-game Western Hockey League homestand. The Wheat Kings are 2-3-0 through the first five games of this homestand and enter the game with a record of 12-9-1, good for 25 points and eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Chiefs meanwhile continue to lead the U.S. Division with a record of 14-5-0-3. While the club has been led by the likes of Levko Koper, Drayson Bowman and Mitch Wahl, it's been their defensive play that has been most impressive during the first two months of the 2008-09 campaign.

Spokane has given up a league best 40 goals in 22 games, or a goals against average of 1.81 per game. Veteran netminder Dustin Tokarski has been brilliant, compiling a 1.72 goals against average, a 12-5-0-3 record, three shutouts and a .947 save percentage in nineteen appearances.

An 18-year old Edmonton product, Koper currently leads Spokane in scoring with fourteen goals and 24 points, followed by Wahl (13-10-23) and Browman (9-12-21). On the blueline, the Chiefs feature 6'5" 218 lb Saskatoon product Jared Cowan, who should be a first round pick in June's National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Wheat Kings will close out this homestand Friday night against the Kootenay Ice. Friday night is Heritage Co-op Team Poster Night. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a free 2008-09 Wheat Kings' Team Poster, compliments of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.

Tickets to both home games this week are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
