Maryanne Mussell Named Chairperson of BC Academic Division
November 18, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Chilliwack Bruins News Release
The Chilliwack Bruins and the Western Hockey League are proud to announce that Bruins Team Education Advisor Maryanne Mussell has been appointed by the WHL as Chairperson of the WHL's B.C. Academic Division. Maryanne, who is currently a Counselor at Sardis Secondary School, has served as the Bruins Education Advisor since the team's arrival in Chilliwack in 2006.
Each of the WHL's 22 member clubs has an Education Advisor who ensures that the team's athletes are organized, informed, supported and prepared academically. As a means to improving communication and consistency among all of the League's Education Advisors, the WHL has established Academic Divisions which closely parallel the four playing divisions. Each Academic Division is comprised of the Education Advisors within the corresponding geographical high school jurisdictions which include B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the U.S. Each Academic Division will be led by a Division Chairperson. Maryanne, in her capacity as the B.C. Division Chairperson, will act as a conduit for information sharing with the other four Divisional Chairpersons. Under Maryanne's leadership, the Education Advisors will share information and assist each other with any challenges that may arise.
Bruins players are enrolled in either high school, college or the Distance Education program. Maryanne's duties with the Bruins include coordinating tutorials and study halls, assisting with class and exam schedules, course registration and credit transfers for inbound and outbound players.
Due in large part to Maryanne's tireless efforts and dedication to the team and its athletes, the Bruins were recognized as the Western Hockey League's 2007-08 WHL Scholastic Team of the Year.
The Bruins organization would like to congratulate Maryanne on her appointment, and to acknowledge and thank her for the special impact she has on each of its athletes.
