Fraser, MI – The Motor City Mechanics Bryan Smolinski broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period and Sean Avery netted the game winner two minutes later to boost the Mechanics to a 4-2 win over the Port Huron Beacons.

Smolinski opened the scoring at the 5:41 mark of the first period when he took a feed from Kyle Kos, giving Motor City a 1-0 lead. Malcolm MacMillan scored late in the first for the Beacons to tie the game. After a scoreless second period, Smolinski broke the tie giving the Mechanics a 2-1 lead. Sean Avery found the back of the net two minutes later, boosting the Mechanics lead to 3-1. Josh Tataryn scored for Port Huron, cutting the lead to 3-2. In the final minute of play, the Beacons pulled goaltender Stu Dunn but were unable to muster the offense for the tie. Mechanic Rookie Jeff Doyle scored an empty netter to seal the 4-2 win.

In goal, Dunn made 41 saves for the Beacons, while Rod Branch stopped 22 shots in goal for the Mechanics.
