Jackals Drop Hit Parade 8-6

Richmond, VA - The Elmira Jackals fell short in an 8-6 loss to the Richmond Riverdogs Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum.

Meeting for the second straight night the Riverdogs and Jackals again traded goals all night long. Richmond opening the scoring at 1:52 of the first period on a Francis Belanger tap-in on a David Brosseau rebound. Elmira struck back with a Jeff Antonovich power play goal at 4:14 assisted by Eddy Lowe and George Pujacs. The Riverdogs took a 2-1 lead into the break with a power play goal of their own from Ryan Prentice at 14:27.

In the second period Jeff Antonovich immediately drew the Jackals level by scoring his second goal of the game at 1:07 assisted by Jason Sessa. Semir Ben-Amor scored at 3:06 to regain the lead for Richmond, but it would not last. Eddy Lowe scored Elmira's other goal of the period, his 14th goal of the year, at 11:53 assisted by Jason Jaworski to tie the game at three. The Riverdogs had goals from David Hymovitz and a second goal from Prentice to open up a 5-3 lead after two periods.

The third period did not start well for the Jackals and looked to be the beginning of the end when Mark Langdon made it 6-3 Riverdogs at 3:03. But Elmira would come storming back with three straight goals to equalize yet again. Nathan Gillies scored from Jamie Thompson and Trevor Burgess at 7:19, Dean Jackson lifted one into the top shelf at 8:14 from Antonovich and Darren Van Oene tied the game at 10:57 assisted by Sessa and Bryan Cummings. However this wild affair would belong to the home team. Ryan Prentice earned his hat-trick at 15:20 to put Richmond back in front and then Langdon scored his second of the game at 18:36 to put the game out of reach 8-6.

Nathan Grobins made 38-of-44 saves for his 8th win of the season; Jackals goaltender Greg Hewitt made 30 saves on 38 Richmond shots in the loss.

The Jackals now roll back home for a double-shot against the Adirondack Frostbite starting on Friday February 18th at 7:30 pm at First Arena. The Jackals will be wearing special edition Patriotic Jerseys for both games and those jerseys will be auctioned off following Saturday night's game.
