Fraser, MI â The Motor City Mechanics came back from a 2-0 deficit and rookie Matt Hunter scored the game winning goal with just twenty seconds remaining in the game to hand the top ranked Fort Wayne Komets a 3-2 loss. For the third consecutive game, the Mechanics fired more than 50 shots on net and rookie Jared Ross scored his first professional goal. This is the Mechanics seventh consecutive win.
Shane Kenny put the Komets on the board after a neutral zone turnover resulted in a breakaway for Kenny who fired the puck past Mechanics netminder Rod Branch for the 1-0 lead at 7:21 of the first period. Two minutes later, Fort Wayne took 2-0 lead on a goal from Danny Stewart. At the 12:47 mark of the second period, Ross, tallying his first professional goal, scored shorthanded to put the Mechanics on the board.
Down 2-1 heading into the third period, Chris Chelios took advantage of a powerplay and tied the game at two. At the 19:40 mark, Hunter found the back of the net to give the Mechanics their seventh consecutive win. In goal, Tyler Masters made 51 saves for the Komets, while Branch stopped 23 shots for Motor City.
