
Mechanics Fall Short In Quad City

Moline, Ill â The Motor City Mechanics let a 4-1 lead slip through their fingers, allowing five unanswered Quad City goals for a dramatic 6-4 loss.
The Mechanics jumped out to a 2-0 lead on their first two shots of the game, coming from Dan Price and Tim Laurila. The Mallards cut the lead to down to one, but 32 seconds into the second period, Joe Burton increased the Motor City lead to 3-1. Burton scored his second of the evening just over four minutes later, giving the Mechanics a 4-1 advantage.
Following the Mechanics fourth goal, Quad City pulled starting goaltender Jeff Reyneart and put in Robert Gherson who recorded a shutout in his last outing for the Mallards. Quad City scored five unanswered goals, with the game winner coming from Marty Standish. Late in the third period, a slew of penalties left the Mechanics with a limited number of skaters, including only one defenseman. Jason Deskins scored an insurance goal on the ensuing powerplay making it a 6-4 final. The Mallards outshot Motor City 44-28.
On Sunday, Motor City hosts the Missouri River Otters at 5:00pm. Mechanics defenseman Derian Hatcher will sign autographs on the concourse following the game. The River Otters roster boasts the 2003 NHL Rookie of the Year Barrett Jackman as well as NHLer Ryan Johnson.
