Three For Lee In Outlaw Win
February 26, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kansas City Outlaws News Release
With the Kansas City Outlaws fighting for a shot at the Colonial Cup playoffs and just 23 games remaining in the season, they needed a win tonight against the Kalamazoo Wings. Thanks to outstanding goaltending and solid production from the first two lines, the Outlaws picked up a 4-3 shootout victory.
After a scoreless and largely uneventful first period, Kansas City's rookie sensation Mark Lee broke the nothing-nothing tie just 1:43 into the second period.Outlaw veteran and leading scorer Smokin' Joe Seroski got the assist.
Kalamazoo didn't wait to strike back. The K-Wings scored two goals in less than 90 seconds to tie the game and then take the lead. Kalamazoo's Tim Krueckl scored at 2:11 (Mike Manley), and Yannick Carpentier added a tally at 3:11 (Tyler Willis, Daniel Carriere) for the one goal K-Wing advantage.
When Kalamazoo's Matt Noga went to the penalty box at 6:35 for roughing, the Outlaws took advantage of the power play. Lee and Jay Murphy assisted on a power play goal by captain Jason Ruff to even the score at 2-2. Ruffer's goal was his 20th of the year and his 7th on the power play. With that point- his second of the night- Lee became just the 3rd Outlaw to register 40 points this season, behind only Ruff and Seroski.
Leezy picked up his third point of the evening at 4:18 of the final period, assisting- along with Ruff- on a Joe Seroski power play goal. The Outlaws led, 3-2.
The K-Wings' Tyler Willis beat Outlaw netminder Maxime Gingras with 7:58 remaining to knot things at 3-3, and that's how regulation ended.
In the shootout, only Carpentier could solve Gingras, while Kansas City's Murphy and Seroski both scored against Kalamazoo's Chad Alban. The Outlaws won the shootout and the game. Final score- 4-3.
Gingras was again spectacular in goal, kicking aside 31 of 34 Kalamazoo shots.
From Kalamazoo, the Outlaws head to Rockford for a 7:00 pm game tomorrow night, followed by a Sunday afternoon match at Quad City.
