
Power surge thrusts Rockford past Missouri

Rockford, Ill.- After a power outage delayed the third period for nearly an hour-and a-half Friday night, the Rockford IceHogs used three late third period goals to top the Missouri River Otters 5-1 in front of 4,413 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Goaltender Michel Robinson turned away 40 Missouri shots to help Rockford pick up their 36 win of the season, a franchise record.
Winger Terry Harrison catapulted Rockford into the lead mid-way through the first period. Harrison picked up a rebound from goalie Jason Tapp at 10:38 at fired it into an open net to give Rockford the 1-0 lead.
In the second frame, Rockford extended their lead to 2-0 when defenseman Jaisen Freeman set up Alex Kim in front at 12:36. But just :30 later Missouri winger Mark Odut flipped one over Robinson's shoulder to cut the lead in half. Then during the second intermission, a power failure delayed the game for over an hour and a half.
After the long intermission the Hogs eventually broke down the Otters with three goals in the final 2:59. Center J.C. Ruid made the lead 3-1 with a power play goal at 17:51. After the sequence, Tapp was ejected from the game and was replaced by Kevin Reiter. Reiter was greeted rudely at 18:19 when Jason Ralph tallied another power play goal. Winger Chris Gobert finished the scoring at 19:40 with an even strength goal.
Next Home Game: Saturday, February 26 vs. Kansas City Outlaws. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Outlaws return to Rockford in another Western Division showdown.
