McNeal Fuels Jam to 104-93 Road Win

BAKERSFIELD, February 11, 2013 - After going back-and-forth for three quarters, Jerel McNeal overpowered the Erie Bayhawks (17-14) in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 of his game-high 28 points in that final period to give the Bakersfield Jam (21-9) a 104-93 victory.
Monday night's game between Bakersfield and Erie, which was nationally televised live on CBS Sports Network, saw 23 lead changes and 16 times tied. It was a well-balanced attack in the first half as the Jam saw 9 of their 10 players each score at least a bucket, led by Chris Cooper's outstanding effort and play off the bench with 10 points (all in the second quarter). Second half remained close as the Jam's 49-46 lead at the half was only extended to five points to finish the third (77-72). However, with 3:31 left in the final frame and both teams locked in at 90, McNeal took complete control of the game as he scored the final 12 (4/4 FG's) of Bakersfield's 14 points. The Jam ended the game on 14-3 run and sealed their fourth consecutive win.
In addition to McNeal's 28 points (12/20 FG's), he also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists, three steals and has now scored 20+ points in six straight games. Brian Butch recorded his 15^th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Adam Koch also posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Renaldo Major had 18 points while Chris Cooper contributed 10 points (5/5 FG's) off the bench.
Erie was paced by D.J. Kennedy who scored 21 points while Tirrell Baines had 15 points off the bench. Henry Sims posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds while Nick Covington tallied 13 points.
Bakersfield will now head into the All-Star break with the best record in the league. The Jam will be back in action on Friday, February 22 when they host the Maine Red Claws at 7:00 p.m. PT.
