Springfield Armor News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Armor, presented by MGM Springfield, announced today that they have acquired forward Kris Joseph from the Maine Red Claws in exchange for forward James Mays.
Joseph (6-7, 210, Syracuse) appeared in 12 games (eight starts) with the Red Claws this season, averaging 18.2 points on .437 shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.6 steals in 34.1 minutes per game. Joseph scored a season-high 28 points on November 23 at Canton.
Originally selected with the 51st pick of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, Joseph appeared in six games with the Celtics this season, averaging 1.2 points and 0.8 rebounds in 4.0 minutes per game. He was assigned to Maine by the Celtics five times prior to being waived by Boston on January 6. Joseph was then re-acquired by the Red Claws under an NBA D-League provision that allows a D-League team to sign a player waived by their NBA parent club if the player has played 10 or more games for that D-League team while on NBA assignment.
A native of Montreal, Quebec, Joseph, 24, played four years collegiately at Syracuse University, culminating in his selection as an All-Big East First Team performer after a senior season in which he averaged 13.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
"We are excited to have Kris Joseph join our team," said Brooklyn Nets General Manager of Minor League Operations Milton Lee. "Kris is a player we have watched at Syracuse and with the Celtics and we think his athleticism and scoring ability should be a big boost for us."
Joseph will wear jersey No. 24 for the Armor and will make his debut with the team on Wednesday, Feb. 20 on the road against the Idaho Stampede. Joseph will make his home debut on Saturday, Feb. 23 when the Armor host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
