Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (January 6, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced in conjunction with the CHL that defenseman Darren McMillan will replace injured center Mike McLean as the Mallards' representative at next Wednesday's CHL All-Star Game in Rapid City, South Dakota.

McMillan, 30, has scored two goals and totaled ten points while playing in each of the Mallards' first 31 games. A lower body injury suffered in the Mallards' December 23 game at Missouri prevents McLean from taking part in the All-Star Game.

McMillan produced three points as the Mallards won three times in as many nights last weekend. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, native scored once and assisted on the overtime game winner in the Mallards' 6-5 victory in Fort Wayne last Friday. The following evening McMillan set up the Mallards' last-second winning goal in a 3-2 victory at Missouri.

On December 27 McMillan recorded his one hundredth career assist in a 4-0 win over Bloomington. He has now scored 21 goals and recorded 123 points in 301 career games over six seasons.

McMillan returned for a second stint with the Mallards this season after starting last year in the Quad Cities. He picked up three assists in a dozen games for the Mallards early in the 2009-10 campaign before signing with Klostersee EHC in Germany in November of 2009. After crossing the Atlantic, McMillan scored four goals and notched 22 points in 26 games in the German Oberliga.

McMillan in 2008-09 scored once and produced 10 points in 73 games while helping the Ontario (California) Reign to the ECHL Pacific Division title. McMillan made his return to North America for the 2008-09 campaign after playing in Germany for Klostersee in 2007-08. He spent his first two pro seasons (2005-06 and 2006-07) with the Wichita Thunder.

Before turning pro, McMillan played for St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia for four seasons. He won the Atlantic University Sport conference title with the X-Men in 2003-04. In the junior ranks, he was a three-year player for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League from 1998-2001. McMillan and the Otters won back-to-back OHL Midwest Division championships in 1999-2000 and 2000-01 and also finished the regular season first overall in the OHL in 2000-01.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. on home ice against the Tulsa Oilers. The first 1,000 fans ages 12 and under through the doors of the i wireless Center for that game will receive free kids' 40" wooden hockey sticks courtesy of CBS 4 and 97X.
